As experts await the Department of Labor’s (DOL) latest jobs report, some predict that 950,000 more people filed for unemployment last week, driven by a persistent flow of recently unemployed Americans.

That figure would be only the second time that new weekly unemployment claims fell under 1 million since the pandemic began. Thursday’s data will also be the first gathered under the DOL’s updated recording method, which some suspect will reduce seasonally adjusted claims figures.
